The Department of Urban Studies and Territory (IEUT) of Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and the Centre for Social Conflict and Cohesion Studies (COES) -hosted at the Universidad de Chile, Universidad de Chile, Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez and Universidad Diego Portales- is awarding postdoctoral research positions in Santiago, Chile. Commencement of employment: March 2018.
The Centre for Social Conflict and Cohesion Studies (COES) is a multidisciplinary Centre that aims to produce cutting edge research on conflicts and social cohesion in Chile as well as in the Latin American region, based on different conceptual and methodological contributions from the social sciences. Our work also aims to stimulate public debate and awareness as well as inform public policy making with evidenced based research.
The Department of Urban Studies and Territory UC (IEUT) looks back to more than 50 dedicated years of academic teaching and research in the area of Urban Studies and Territory and town planning, too. The department belongs to the faculty of Architecture, Design and Urban Studies, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, who offers under and postgraduate studies.
Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D. in social sciences disciplines (awarded within the last 5 years or expecting to defend their theses not later than December 2017) as well as strong writing and methodological skills. The employment will be founded by both institutions. Integration and support of the work of both research teams are required. The aim is to execute an academic interdisciplinary dialog on teaching as well as on research.
Candidates will have to dedicate 33 hours of research and 11 hours of teaching in the different programs of the IEUT. In the time of research, we require that the postdoctoral researcher participates in the interdisciplinary labor of COES as well as IEUT and publish at least one summary of his postdoctoral researcher during the year.
The explicit incorporation of the topics Social conflict and Group cohesiveness as object of research is an imperative, in areas like:
- Urban Economy
- Housing and residential segregation
The payment will be made through an agreement with fees (with 10% withholding) in the amount of $1,800,000 Chilean pesos paymen (approximate US$ 30,000 depending on currency translation rate) The position is for two years, but renewal for the second year will be subject to meeting probational criteria.
