Director and Principal Researcher at Socio-Economic Dimensions of Conflict Line at COES, a member of the Board of Codelco and Professor of Economics at Universidad de Chile, where he has been recognized as the best Economics professor for the past five years. He holds a doctorate in Economics from the University of California-Los Angeles. He served as Executive Director of the World Bank and an Officer of the United Nations Development Program, as well as Director of the Universidad de Chile Economics Department. Dr. Contreras has developed consultancies for the Inter-American Development Bank, the Ministry of Labor, the National Women’s Service, the Ministry of Planning and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. His research focuses on the economics of education, poverty, income distribution, social policy and impact evaluation.
