Adjunct Researcher with the COES Geographies of Conflict Line and Director of the Regional Observatory at Universidad Católica de Temuco (UCT). He is a sociologist with a magíster in Social Research and a doctorate in Human Geography from University of Manchester, England and a Postdoctoral Fellowship at COES in socio-environmental conflicts. Dr. Romero is the Lead Researcher on Fondecyt Initiation Project No. 11140265, “Analysis of Socio-environmental Transformations and Conflicts in Northern Chile: Water, Mining, Landscapes and Aymara Communities (2014-2017).” He also directs a UCT project on forestry and hydroelectric expansion in Mapuche territory. His research focuses on socio-environmental transformations, intercultural geography and extractivisms.
